âI saw a human being who deserved loveâ: Nigerian catechist on the man who tried to kill him
Christian persecution in Nigeria is in the spotlight, after US President Donald Trump warned that the United States may take military action against Nigeria unless its government stops the killing of Christians by extremist groups. Itâs estimated that around 3,000 Christians have been killed between January and August in 2025 in Nigeria, although these numbers are contested. The US president threatened to go into that ânow disgraced country guns-a-blazingâ and âimmediately stop all aid and assistanceâ if the government âcontinues to allow the killing of Christiansâ by âIslamic terroristsâ. He added that any US response would be âfast, vicious, and sweet, just like the terrorist thugs attack our cherished Christiansâ. Trumpâs intervention follows weeks of pressure from conservative Christian groups urging him to classify Nigeria as a âcountry of particular concernâ. Some analysts emphasise that the causes of persecution are often more complicated than just being religiously motivated, arguing that many incidents are linked to ethnic tensions, competition over land and water, and to other local disputes. While abductions of priests and pastors have increased, some suggest that profit is the primary motivator, rather than religion, since such individuals are high-value victims whose communities can quickly pay ransom. Nigeriaâs leadership has swiftly contested Trumpâs comments, with the country's president, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, insisting Nigeria âis a democracy with constitutional guarantees of religious libertyâ. Although Nigeria is officially secular, it is closely split between Muslims (53 per cent) and Christians (45 per cent). In his statements, Trump has not made mention of any violence against Muslims who have also been targeted by extremist religious groups, including Boko Haram. The story of Nigerian catechist Tobias Yahaya and his near-fatal stabbing and return to ministry, which is captured in the video interview above, illustrates the human toll of such internicine communal violence. He highlighted his religion as the reason he was attacked, saying: âI can say [the manâs] attack on me is solely because of my faith, because he testified in the court ⌠It is because he saw me as an influence ⌠to [his] children and religion.â Asked if this reflected the broader issue of violence in the country, Tobias said: âThe argument of whether it is religious or whatever it is, is not going to help matters.â On 19 November, Tobias received the âCourage to be a Christian Awardâ from Aid to the Church in Need at Southwark Cathedral, London. The day also marked the charityâs annual âRed Wednesdayâ initiative that illuminates buildings in red lights to raise international awareness of the persecution and discrimination of Christians around the world. -- This report was originally produced for the Catholic Herald, but was taken down from their YouTube channel as part of their 2025/26 rebrand. đ My website - www.undertheledge.com đ§ Email Me - info@Undertheledge.com

On the Ground at an Anti-Trump Rally in Manchester
Last night, US President Donald Trump flew into London Stansted for his second state visit to the UK. Today, he arrived at Windsor Castle for a day of pomp and pageantry. He will watch a military procession, witness a Red Arrows flypast, and attend a state banquet. The trip has widely been seen as an act of diplomacy by Sir Keir Starmer, but it has not been without controversy, with costs expected to exceed at least ÂŁ10 million. Four people have been arrested after images of Trump and the late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein were projected onto Windsor Castle, and many are turning out across the country to protest against the visit. In this video, I'm on the ground at St Peterâs Square in Manchester to speak to some of these protesters. -- Please contact to purchase footage. đ My website - www.undertheledge.com đ§ Email Me - info@Undertheledge.com

15 People in Hospital after Bus Crash at Victoria Station, London
17 people, including pedestrians, passengers, and a driver have been injured, with 15 in hospital, after a bus mounted the side of the pavement opposite Victoria Station, in London today. There were no life-threatening injuries reported after the collision which happened at around 8.20am. Eyewitnesses reported that the bus was moving at high speed when it crashed into a barrier. Maintenance workers who were behind the barriers told of how the bus driver crawled out the front covered in blood, and how they were trying to help everyone out of the bus. They explained if the barrier wasnât there, they probably wouldnât have escaped injury, and that it was a miracle no one was killed. This isnât the first time a bus has crashed in the vicinity of Victoria. Last January, Catherine Finnegan, 56, died after she was hit by a double-decker bus next to the station, and Melissa Burr, 32, died in August 2021 after a bus driver mistakenly pressed the accelerator pedal rather than the brake. There have been no arrests, but police are appealing for any witnesses or anyone with information to contact them. â Anyone with information that could assist police is asked to call 101 quoting CAD 1605/4Sept. --- đ My website - www.undertheledge.com đ§ Email Me - info@Undertheledge.com

Meet the 72nd Miracle of Lourdes: Antonia Raco
Tell a friend youâre heading to Lourdes on pilgrimage, and youâll likely hear a quip, anecdote or knowing comment about miracles. Since Bernadetteâs apparitions in 1858, however, officially recognised miracles have been remarkably rare, especially when set against the millions who journey each year to the French Pyrenean town. While many return spiritually renewed â a miracle of its own â the Lourdes Medical Bureau focuses on cases of physical healing. Each year, hundreds of pilgrims report extraordinary improvements in health, but only a fraction meet the stringent criteria for further investigation. The process is exhaustive: a seven-step process must be satisfied before any cure is declared miraculous, with the bar set deliberately high. To date, only 72 cases have been officially recognised. Thatâs why, when Dr Alessandro de Franciscis, president of the Lourdes Medical Bureau, invited me to hear the testimony of the latest addition to the list, Antonia Raco, I was intrigued, if also, I can't deny, somewhat sceptical. This film tells Antoniaâs story: her diagnosis with primary lateral sclerosis (PLS) in 2006 and her sudden recovery during pilgrimage in 2009. She tells her moving testimony of instantaneous recovery and the 15-year journey that followed before her healing was finally confirmed as the 72nd miracle of Lourdes. -- This documentary was originally produced for the Catholic Herald, but was taken down from their YouTube channel as part of their 2025/26 rebrand. đ My website - www.undertheledge.com đ§ Email Me - info@Undertheledge.com
